About Us

The Western Pennsylvania Hospital — Forbes Regional Campus is uniquely positioned to fulfill the community's increasing need for advanced cardiac services. As the only hospital within a 15 mile area, Forbes Regional Campus has the feel of a big city hospital in a community setting.

The Ed Dardanell Heart & Vascular Center is designed with the patient at heart. Cardiac services are located in close proximity to one another to provide for effective and efficient patient care. Our Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit utilizes the universal bed concept whereby patients stay in one location for their stay and patients and families are encouraged to be active participants in the patient's daily routine and recovery.

Our physicians are top notch as well. Dr. Michael Culig, Medical Director of The Ed Dardanell Heart & Vascular Center is certified in cardiothoracic surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and has more than 20 years experience in performing open heart procedures.

Dr. Aashish Dua, Medical Director of the Cardiac Cathetherization Laboratory and Dr. John Power, Medical Director, Peripheral Vascular Services head up a qualified team of nurses and technologists. During the first year of operation, the heart center performed more than 1,200 cardiac and vascular procedures.

The Western Pennsylvania Hospital — Forbes Regional Campus provides a full complement of cardiovascular services. Key services include open heart and valve related surgeries, cardiac catheterizations, invasive peripheral vascular services, diagnostic electrophysiology, and a variety of other important cardiac procedures.

Our accredited Chest Pain Center is the first in the region to be granted this designation. This award from the Society of Chest Pain Centers reflects the teamwork and commitment of our health care providers. From our emergency medical services team to our critical care units, we incorporate best practice care.

Our newly developed low-risk Chest Pain Evaluation Unit is designed to provide patients with a streamlined and rapid diagnosis of chest pain.
